When the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) migrated to Madina, one of the first people who saw the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) among the jews scholars was Abdullah ibn Salam. Abdullah was one of the Jews scholars.
Abdullah came to the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) to talk and ask questions about Islam. He became convinced about Islam and so hey took Shahada and became a Muslim. The Prophet (pbuh) was happy for him.
Abdullah said to the Prophet (pbuh): ” The Jews know that I am one of their scholars and my father was a scholar as well, if you like, hide me in your house, and call those jews and ask them about me”.
The Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) invited those Jews scholars to his house, while Abdullah was hiding in another room inside the Prophet’s house.
The Prophet (pbuh) asked the Jews group: “Do you know Abdullah ibn Salam?”. They said: “Yes”. Prophet asked: “What do you say in him?”. They said: “Our best among us and the son of our best – Our scholar and the son of our scholar”.
The Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) said to them: “What do you say if he became a Mulsim”? They said: “God forbid that he becomes a Muslim”.
The Prophet repeated the question the second time: “What do you say if he became a Mulsim”? They said: “God forbid that he becomes a Muslim”.
The Prophet repeated the question the third time: “What do you say if he became a Mulsim”? They said: “God forbid that he becomes a Muslim”.
At this time, Abdullah ibn Salam came out to them and said” I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is the messenger of Allah”.
They directly said as a response for him to bear witness: “This is the evilest among our people and the son of the evilest – He is the worst among our people and the son of the worst”.
Then Allah (swt) revealed the following aya:
(10) Say, “Have you considered: if the Qur’an was from Allah, and you disbelieved in it while a witness from the Children of Israel has testified to something similar and believed while you were arrogant…?” Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.
