There is a reference in Surat Al Nasr to the religion of the infidels, that it will disappear and will be dissolved. Surah Al-Nasr included the gospel of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with the opening of Makkah, his victory over the infidels, the spread of Islam, and the completion of the message.
Also Surat Al-Nasr told the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he was nearing his time, and that he should praise and seek forgiveness from Allah SWT.
Reason for The Revelation of Surat Al Nasr
As for the reason for the revelation of Surat Al-Nasr, it is to tell the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he nearing his time and the mark on that is the opening of Makkah. The evidence for this is narrated by Imam al-Bukhaari in his Saheeh, from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, said:
When Surat Al Nasr Were Reveled?
Scholars have 2 different narrations on this:
- First: The revelation of the Sura was after the opening of Makkah and the Prophet lived 70 days after the the revelation date of Surat Al Nasr. The prophet passed away on the 1oth year of migration (Hijra Calendar), that’s why the Sura is known also as “Surat Altawdee’a” which means the Sura of farewell.
- Second: Says that the Sura was reveled before the opening of Makkah and the Prophet Mohammed PBUH promised about the victory and opening of Makkah.
Surat Al Nasr indicated the following provisions:
- The Muslim should thank God and praise him and praise him for what he is entitled to, as he have blessed him greatly, one of the greatest blessings that Allah has on his prophet and upon the believers is opening Mecca, and achieving victory over the enemies.
- Allah SWT ended Surat Al Nasr with commanding his Prophet PBUH to increase of the prayers and seeking forgiveness from Allah SWT and praise him for he have giving them (the victory and opening of Makkah).
- The religion of Allah Almighty is Islam and that for the Almighty said: (إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ الْإِسْلامُ) “The religion with Allah is Islam”. Surat Al Imran – Aya 19
- The command of Allah in the Sura started with “tasbeeh”, praising, then seeking forgiveness from him. We have to be busy with our creator doing tasbeeh and praising for him before being busy with ourself by seeking forgiveness.
- The Companions, may God bless them and grant them peace, agreed that Surat Al Nasr indicated the obituary of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
