One day, Omar bin al-Khattab and Abu Bakr al-Siddiq were sitting near the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh). The Prophet (pbuh) asked Omar and Abu Baker about whom should he choose to be the prince of Bani Tamim delegation.
Abu Baker said: Al – Qaqaa ibn Mabed. Omar said: No, but al – Aqra ‘Ibn al – Habez.
Abu Baker started explaining why he satisfied Al – Qaqaa while Omar was doing the opposite. So a conflict occurred between Abu Baker and Omar while the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) is sitting. The Prophet (pbuh) didn’t say anything. Then Allah (swt) revealed the following aya:
(1) O you who have believed, do not put [yourselves] before Allah and His Messenger but fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
